Malaysia Invited to Co-organize Gaza Reconstruction Conference by Egypt

Egypt has invited Malaysia to co-organize an international conference on early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He mentioned that the invitation came from the Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and was delivered by Prime Minister Mostafa Kamal Madbouly during the G20 Summit. Anwar stated, ‘Egypt has asked Malaysia to consider its proposal for the two countries to organize the conference jointly.’ He added that further details were being sought from the Egyptian authorities before a decision could be made. This invitation highlights Malaysia’s firm stance on Gaza and Palestine, according to Anwar. During the G20 Summit, Madbouly expressed Egypt’s readiness to host the conference on Gaza’s recovery and reconstruction. Anwar had brief discussions with various leaders on the sidelines of the Summit, such as with Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. They talked about enhancing bilateral relations and Anwar’s upcoming visit to Turkey. Anwar also met with Brazil’s President Lioz Inacio Lula da Silva, who commended PETRONAS’ performance in Brazil and inquired about expanding its role. Additionally, his conversation with Vietnam’s Prime Minister focused on expediting the Asean Power Grid initiative that would pass through Vietnam, Peninsular Malaysia, and Singapore. Anwar shared his exchange of views with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Summit. Both leaders expressed mutual commitment to strengthening ties in various areas like the economy, trade, education, and technology for enhanced cooperation. Anwar emphasized that Malaysia and India will continue collaborating to create strategic partnerships and leverage the region’s growth potential.
