Man kills woman after learning about twin pregnancy; face became disfigured

A 30-year-old man was arrested on Saturday (9/27) for the murder of his 32-year-old partner in Teófilo Otoni (MG), in the Mucuri Valley. Érika Vidal da Silva Torre Cardoso was found dead, with multiple injuries to her head and face, near the AABB (Brazilian Bank Athletic Association) club. The Military Police reported that her partner confessed to the crime and was arrested. The discovery of a twin pregnancy was the trigger for an argument that ended in the woman’s death. The couple had been in a stable relationship for nine months. The police were called in the early morning to check reports of a motorcycle and a bloody person in the area. When they arrived at BR-116, near the Airport District, they found the victim lying in a wooded area with a disfigured face. Surrounding the scene were bloodstains, clumps of hair, and scattered belongings including a helmet, a blue motorcycle, sneakers, a cap, and a white shirt apparently stained with blood. The police were alerted by a club employee who saw a man asking for help and claiming his wife was unwell. Shortly after, the police received another call informing them that a man was on the street shouting that he had killed his wife. The team went to Felicidade Street, in Viriato District, where they found the man who confessed to the murder. He revealed that they had spent the night drinking in bars in Viriato and São Cristóvão neighborhoods. In the early hours, at the second bar, the victim mentioned she was pregnant with twins, sparking an argument due to suspicions of infidelity. The man stated that after the dispute, he took Érika on his motorcycle near the AABB club, where he assaulted her around 6 am, knocking her unconscious with several punches. He claimed to have tried to revive her with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, but unsuccessfully. He then fled to his father’s house. The forensic examination confirmed the homicide, noting bruises and injuries on the victim’s face and head, with no stab or gunshot wounds. The body was taken to the Medical-Legal Institute (IML) in Teófilo Otoni. The victim’s partner was arrested on the scene, and his motorcycle and cellphone were seized.
