A packed field of parties is contesting Egypt’s parliamentary election with little opposition as those set to dominate the chamber agree on most issues, including their staunch support for President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Voting in Egypt started on Monday, nearly two years after Sisi was elected to a third, six-year term, the final term allowed by Egypt’s current constitution. The campaigns are held over several phases and continue for more than five weeks. Campaign banners feature multiple logos, reflecting a diverse group of parties vying for a spot in the parliament. The parties, however, are aligned in their support for Sisi and are working to engage an electorate that has shown signs of disinterest.
