Mediators Propose Deal To Get Hamas Militants Out Of Gaza’s Rafah: Report

Hamas fighters in the Israeli-held Rafah area may surrender their arms in exchange for safe passage to other parts of Gaza, but the proposals have not been accepted by Israel and Hamas. Negotiations are ongoing as Egypt mediates the talks. Egyptian mediators have suggested that fighters surrender their weapons to Egypt and provide information about tunnels in Rafah in return for safe passage. Despite the proposal, both Israel and Hamas have not yet agreed to the terms. Since the US-brokered ceasefire came into effect, Israel has attacked Rafah twice, accusing Hamas of the attacks. Hamas, however, denies any involvement. The ceasefire agreement, brokered by President Donald Trump, includes provisions for the return of hostages, retrieval of bodies, and a partial Israeli withdrawal from certain areas in Gaza. Israel has not responded to the reports, and a Hamas spokesperson in Gaza declined to comment. Sources indicate that Hamas fighters in Rafah may be unaware of the ceasefire and their safe removal is crucial for maintaining the peace. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has stated that they will not permit the safe passage of around 200 Hamas militants from Rafah into Gaza.
