Finance Minister Fernando Haddad stated on Monday that the virtual meeting with the US Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, was canceled after pressure from White House militants. The meeting was scheduled to take place this Wednesday and, according to him, has not been rescheduled. The phone conversation between Haddad and Bessent was seen as a glimmer of hope by private sector executives and government members. In an interview with Estúdio i, from GloboNews, Haddad explained that the dialogue with Bessent began to be organized after the 50% tariff announced by the US on July 9, which raised taxes on Brazilian products. Negotiations for the meeting began on July 21st but were interrupted last week.
