Lionel Messi and Inter Miami won their first MLS title on Saturday (6). The trophy was secured in a 3-1 victory against Vancouver Whitecaps, with German star Thomas Müller playing for the Canadian team. The final, held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, saw Brian Ocampo scoring an own goal in the eighth minute to open the scoring. Vancouver managed to equalize in the 15th minute of the second half through Ali Ahmed.
Inter Miami responded shortly after. At the 26th minute, Rodrigo de Paul received a pass from Messi and scored. In injury time, at the 51st minute, Tadeo Allende took advantage of another assist from the Argentine superstar.
It was Inter Miami’s sixth season in the MLS, and the team finally fulfilled their promise to dominate American soccer, a goal set when Messi was signed in 2023. In August, the team narrowly missed out on winning the Leagues Cup, a tournament between teams from the USA and Mexico, but they found their best form in the crucial moments of the MLS.
