Moraes gives Bolsonaro 48 hours to explain non-compliance with precautionary measures that could lead to preventive detention

The ruling was prompted by a Federal Police report that indicted the former president and his son, federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), for coercion in the course of the process and an attempt to undermine the democratic rule of law. In this case, federal agents deemed it to be a new autonomous conduct, hence a new crime, distinct from the one for which Bolsonaro is already being judged by the Supreme Court. Besides them, two other suspects are under investigation: blogger Paulo Figueiredo and pastor Silas Malafaia. In addition to coercion in the course of the process, Moraes questions the escape plans found on Bolsonaro’s phone to Argentina, the Operation Tabajara, revealed by Estadão. Documents found on the former president’s phone show his intention to flee the country to evade imprisonment. After requesting explanations from the defense, which could lead to the cancellation of precautionary measures other than imprisonment.
