More Bodies Found in Indonesia Landslides, Death Toll Rises to 23 with 28 Missing

Rescuers retrieved additional bodies in the ongoing search for victims buried under landslides in two areas of Indonesia’s main island of Java, bringing the confirmed death toll to 23, officials reported on Thursday. Teams meticulously worked through tons of mud and rubble using nearly two dozen excavators in the Cilacap district of Central Java province. Four bodies were recovered in that area on Wednesday following landslides triggered by heavy rains last week, impacting numerous houses across three villages, according to Abdul Muhari, National Disaster Mitigation Agency spokesman. This discovery elevated the casualty count to 20 in the region, with the search ongoing for the remaining three missing individuals.
