Motta Includes Shielding PEC on Agenda, and Chamber May Vote on Proposal this Tuesday

The Chamber of Deputies may vote this Tuesday (16) on the Proposed Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) which expands the shielding of parliamentarians in justice. The proposal was included in the House’s voting agenda after President Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB) met party leaders this morning. Known as the Shielding PEC, the proposal was resurrected by Motta in August, days after the opposition’s mutiny that paralyzed the functioning of the Chamber. The text is supported by parliamentarians from different spectra in the House, especially those from the Centrão. On Tuesday, the Chamber’s President changed the rapporteur of the proposal and chose Deputy Claudio Cajado (PP-BA) for the position. Cajado met with House leaders this morning and discussed points of the proposal. He is close to former House President Arthur Lira (PP-AL), who is seen as one of the articulators of the Shielding PEC.
