Almost a thousand people are trapped on Mount Everest after a heavy snowstorm blocked roads on Saturday night. A search operation was launched on Sunday morning to reach the camps located at nearly five kilometers altitude and clear the roads. According to Chinese media, there are enough supplies for the stranded climbers, and the personnel are safe.

Hundreds of locals and rescue teams have been mobilized to remove the snow and clear the path to the base. Some tourists have already been rescued, according to a report. Some of the mountaineers’ tents were reportedly damaged by the snowstorm, but no deaths in the camps have been confirmed so far, though there is a risk of hypothermia.
The snowstorm began on Friday night and continued through Saturday. Due to the weather conditions, the Tingri County Tourism Company suspended ticket sales and entry into the Everest area.
Across the border in Nepal, heavy rains caused landslides and flash floods. The storms caused chaos, blocking roads and destroying bridges. At least 47 people have died since Friday, according to local authorities.
Another 35 died in landslides in the Ilam district in the east, on the border with India. Meanwhile, nine people are missing after being swept away by floodwaters, and three others were killed by lightning in other parts of the country.
