Today (5.12.2013) marks the remembrance day of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, a great leader who dedicated his entire life to the struggle against South Africa’s apartheid regime. The apartheid regime, in place from 1948 to 1990, institutionalized racial segregation, denying black people basic rights such as education, employment, land ownership, and political and social freedoms. Mandela’s fight against this unjust system began during his time as a law student and continued even during his 27-year imprisonment on Robben Island.
