Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was booed as he took the podium to speak at the United Nations General Assembly on Friday (26). Members of delegations from various countries began to leave the UN plenary before the prime minister started to speak. Brazil was among the countries that exited the venue. In his speech, Netanyahu promised to continue Israel’s war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip and told hostages still held by Palestinian militants that they have not been forgotten. Speaking in Hebrew, the Israeli leader said: ‘We have not forgotten you, not for a second.’ The prime minister listed Israeli victories against Hamas and other militant groups supported by Iran in a speech that reminded the world of the horrors suffered by Israelis on October 7, 2023, when Hamas attacked Israel, killing around 1,200 people and taking hostages, 48 of whom remain in Gaza, according to Israeli counts. ‘Much of the world no longer remembers October 7. But we remember,’ Netanyahu declared. Israel’s military response killed over 65,000 people in Gaza, according to local health authorities, and left much of the territory in ruins. The situation is developing.
