Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu filed a request for a presidential pardon on Sunday (30) in the case where he is standing trial on corruption charges. In the formal plea for clemency, Netanyahu argues to Israel’s President, Isaac Herzog, that the criminal proceedings are impairing the Prime Minister’s ability to govern and that a presidential pardon would serve the interests of the Israeli society. Netanyahu denies the accusations of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust. His lawyers stated in a letter to the president’s office that the Prime Minister still believes the legal process would result in a full acquittal.
