New Diatom Species Discovered on Karnataka’s West Coast, India

A new diatom species named Climaconeis heteropolaris was recently found in the estuaries of Udupi, Karnataka, along India’s southwestern coast. This tiny diatom exhibits a unique shape, adding to the understanding of marine biodiversity in the region. The discovery was made by researchers from Agharkar Research Institute, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, and the University of Colorado.
