New Obesity Guideline: Cardiovascular Risk will be Calculated beyond BMI; Understand the Change

The ‘crisis of the 20s’: experts talk about the increasing fear of the future in this age group. Brazil follows Europe and the USA in a new guideline for hypertension, changing values. The document, presented during the Brazilian Congress of Cardiology in Sao Paulo, emphasizes that the cardiovascular risk level varies among individuals and should be measured using clinical tools on an individual basis. ‘Obesity currently affects 1 billion people worldwide and about 31% of the Brazilian population,’ says endocrinologist Cynthia Valério, director of ABESO and one of the coordinators of the new guidelines. The global growth is expected to remain exponential from 2030 to 2050.
