We observed with surprise the stance of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo in requesting judicial secrecy on one hand, and on the other hand, disclosing selected and distorted information to the press, leading even specialized media astray and spreading misinformation. In response to this, LiBRA, committed to transparency, dialogue, and strengthening Brazilian football, provides crucial clarifications to differentiate between truth and falsehood in the club’s statements.
False claims include Flamengo’s desire for dialogue, interruption of dialogue with a non-urgent injunction obstructing cash flow for other LiBRA clubs to economically pressure them, contradictory to the association’s spirit. LiBRA embodies members’ collective will to build a robust, sustainable league for Brazilian football for mutual benefit, not just Flamengo’s.
False claims refute the idea that LiBRA’s Statute is silent on audience revenue distribution criteria. The approved revenue distribution rule, which Flamengo itself endorsed unanimously without reservations, is detailed in the Statute. Flamengo’s dissatisfaction with LiBRA’s audience criteria and push for a change to user registration were rejected by other Serie A clubs in a vote.
Flamengo’s assertions of a ‘minimum guaranteed value’ under LiBRA’s Statute are false, as such a guarantee would only apply if LiBRA assumed league responsibilities, which is not the case. Contrary to claims, Flamengo did not vote against rule changes but proposed unsuccessful amendments. Claims of imminent losses necessitating an injunction are baseless, given the current contract’s duration and value.
Flamengo’s decisions seem to contradict a genuine interest in dialogue or legal dispute resolution. LiBRA and its member clubs remain open to constructive engagement but are disappointed by Flamengo’s approach. The ongoing dispute reflects deeper issues within Brazilian football governance and highlights the need for collaborative solutions that benefit all stakeholders. Through open dialogue and adherence to agreed-upon rules, Brazilian football can achieve sustainable growth and progress.
