Omar Marmoush and Mohamed Salah at Centre of Potential Club vs Country Battle

Manchester City and Egypt are at odds as the Premier League club may not release Omar Marmoush for a friendly just before the Africa Cup of Nations. Egypt’s head coach wants Marmoush and Mohamed Salah to play against Nigeria on December 14. City is unlikely to release Marmoush due to a Premier League game against Crystal Palace on the same day. Egypt is a top contender in the 24-team tournament starting December 21, with the final on January 18. If Egypt reaches the final, Marmoush would miss eight City matches, including games against Chelsea and Manchester United. Salah could miss seven Liverpool games. City may also lose Rayan Aït-Nouri to Afcon, Guardiola spoke about the impact on their teams, mentioning the NBA-like competitiveness of the Premier League, and the potential for changing champions.
