Palmeiras and Flamengo Find Libertadores Easier than Brasileirão

For the finalists of the 2025 Copa Libertadores de América, participating in the main interclub tournament on the continent has become an easier task than playing in the Campeonato Brasileiro. Since 2019, when the five-time world champion nation began a ‘golden era’ of consecutive titles in the continental competition, both Palmeiras and Flamengo have accumulated better results in the tournament organized by Conmebol than in the national first division. While both teams have won the same number of Brazilian titles and Libertadores titles in the period (two of each), Palmeiras boasts a much better recent performance in the continental competition: 75.9% compared to 62.1%. The difference is smaller for Flamengo, but it still exists. The ‘rubro-negros’ have earned 69.3% of the points they have contested in the continental tournament and 63.8% in the Serie A.
