After being defeated 3-0 in the first leg in Quito, Ecuador, Palmeiras relied on the strength of their fans to overturn the result and qualify in a ‘magical’ way, as coach Abel Ferreira described. Surpassing São Paulo, with six finals, Palmeiras will compete in the final for the seventh time. Before 2025, Palmeiras reached the final in 1961, 1968, 1999, 2000, 2020, and 2021. The Verdão was the first Brazilian finalist and lost in both appearances in the 1960s: in 1961 against Peñarol-URU and in 1968 against Estudiantes from Argentina. After 30 years away from this stage, they returned to the final in 1999, winning their first title against Deportivo Cali from Colombia. The following year, they had the chance for a second consecutive title, but were defeated by Boca Juniors from Argentina. In the recent successful era under coach Abel Ferreira, they clinched back-to-back titles in 2020 and 2021, defeating Santos and Flamengo, respectively.
