Palmeiras aims to extend the lead in the Brasileirão as they face RB Bragantino at Allianz Parque today. Will the law of ex-players prevail? The occasion will be a reunion for the Verdão with six former players of the club: Jhon Jhon, Vanderlan, Fernando, Fabinho, Gabriel Girotto, and Matheus Fernandes. Jhon Jhon, Vanderlan, and Fabinho were developed in Palmeiras’ youth categories. The three won the 2023 Brasileirão for Verdão. Vanderlan lifted 7 trophies at the club, including the 2021 Libertadores. Unable to secure a spot as regular starters, the three moved to Massa Bruta. Jhon Jhon led the way, followed by Fabinho, with Vanderlan being the last to depart. Striker Fernando also played in Palmeiras’ youth setup, where he appeared in two professional matches. Since then, he has played for Shakhtar Donetsk, Sporting, and RB Salzburg before joining Bragantino. Gabriel Girotto, a Brazilian champion with Palmeiras in 2016, had stints with Corinthians, Internacional, and Athletico before joining Massa Bruta. Another familiar face to Palmeiras fans is Matheus Fernandes, who had two spells at the club and was part of the 2021 Libertadores-winning squad. The midfielder also had a spell at Athletico before signing with his current club.
