Telegram’s founder Pavel Durov introduced his new project, a decentralized computing network, at a forum in Dubai on October 29th. The new project, named Cocoon, stands for Confidential Compute Open Network and aims to bring together AI model developers and video card owners willing to sell access to their equipment for running such models. Payments for the computing power will be made using the TON cryptocurrency. Durov emphasizes the decentralization aspect of Cocoon, stating that as people increasingly lose their ‘digital freedoms,’ creating decentralized networks is the only way to preserve them. The full launch of Cocoon is scheduled for November 2025.
