Petista files complaint with PGR against Nikolas for favoring money laundering

Federal deputy Rogério Correia (PT-MG) filed a criminal complaint with the PGR (Attorney General’s Office) this Friday (28) against Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG) for spreading false information about the national financial system and favoring money laundering. The lawmaker’s initiative came after the mega-operation that targeted the Faria Lima area and some institutions in the financial center of São Paulo and Brazil.
In the criminal complaint, the lawmaker mentions a viral video posted by Nikolas on social media about changes in Pix surveillance that the government intended to make but ultimately abandoned. The video, posted on January 14 on Instagram, garnered over 336 million views by Thursday. ‘By spreading false information with millions of views, the accused [Nikolas] possibly contributed decisively to creating regulatory and behavioral loopholes that weaken digital tracking mechanisms,’ says Correia.
‘This inducement to mistrust in the financial system, coupled with encouragement to use cash, directly benefits sophisticated schemes that outsource the movement of illicit funds to third parties, shell companies, and poorly regulated digital platforms,’ he continues. According to the PT deputy, by attacking government control instruments, Nikolas’ narrative strengthens the parallel infrastructure of organized crime and hinders authorities’ actions.
The lawmaker requests the Prosecutor’s Office to investigate crimes of disseminating false or incomplete information about financial institutions, money laundering, organized crime, and association with drug trafficking. He also asks for the video to be deleted, bank and phone records to be accessed. CNN reached out to Nikolas Ferreira’s press office for comment.
