Poland and NATO forces scrambled on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning to intercept a Russian drone entering Polish airspace, marking the first direct military engagement between NATO allies and Russia since the Kremlin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Poland and NATO aircraft responded to the violation of Polish airspace by Russia’s air raids on Ukraine. The Polish military command stated in a release: ‘The violation of Polish airspace by drone-like objects is unprecedented,’ ‘This is an act of aggression that poses a real threat to our citizens.’
