Police operation targets Red Command in Bahia and Ceará

More than 90 judicial warrants are being executed this Tuesday (4) during Operation Freedom, launched by PCBA (Civil Police of Bahia), through the DHPP (Department of Homicides and Person Protection). So far, 31 people have been arrested. According to PCBA, the main objective of the operation is to dismantle the armed and financial core of a branch of the CV (Red Command), a criminal organization originating in Rio de Janeiro and increasingly active in the Northeast.
The teams are conducting diligences in four neighborhoods of Salvador, in the metropolitan area, in the interior of Bahia and also in Ceará. According to the Civil Police, the operation is the result of months of investigation and focuses on members responsible for homicides and the expansion of drug trafficking in several cities in Bahia. According to DHPP, the results obtained with Operation Freedom should contribute to the clarification of at least 30 homicides that occurred in Salvador.
In addition to arrest and search warrants, the court also ordered the freezing of 51 bank accounts linked to those under investigation. According to the police, the measure aims to disrupt the flow of illicit funds used to finance drug trafficking and sustain the faction’s territorial dominance. More than 400 civil and military police officers are participating in the operation, with the support of SSP-BA (Superintendence of Intelligence of the Public Security Secretariat) and DPT (Department of Technical Police).
According to PCBA, the teams involve various specialized departments, such as Draco, Denarc, Deic, Depom, Depin, DPMCV, Polinter, Core, in addition to the Denarc of the Civil Police of Ceará and the Integrated Force for Organized Crime Combat (FICCO-BA). In tactical support, the Bahia Military Police deploy forces from Bope, BPatamo, BPChoque, Gemini Battalion, Apolo, TOR, Eagle Squadron, Cipe/Polo, as well as Rondesp Central, Atlantic, and BTS.
According to SSP-BA, the operation is ongoing, and new arrests may occur by the end of Tuesday.
