Porsche Breaks Traditions: Front-Wheel Drive Prioritized for the First Time in Brand’s History

Porsche is preparing to release a new crossover under the internal name M1, which will replace the discontinued Macan with an internal combustion engine. For the first time in 94 years, the company will introduce a production model with front-oriented all-wheel drive. The new vehicle is being developed on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), which will also underpin future Audi models. This strategic shift represents a departure from Porsche’s traditional rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout, demonstrating the brand’s commitment to innovation and adaptation to changing market demands.
