Ethiopia, a country known for power shortages, has taken an unexpected step towards leading the electric vehicle revolution by being the first to prohibit the import of petrol and diesel cars. This ambitious move comes as the construction of a new dam offers the promise of affordable and sustainable green energy. Deghareg Bekele, a young architect residing in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital, recently acquired a Volkswagen electric car despite uncertainties about the city’s frequent power outages as well as concerns regarding the vehicle’s durability.
