Puan emphasized that the death of Irene Sokoy should be the last incident of its kind in Indonesia and must not be repeated. She stated that the Ministry of Health should evaluate healthcare delivery in hospitals, especially in remote areas to prevent similar tragedies.
Puan ensured that the case of Irene Sokoy’s death has caught the attention of President Prabowo Subianto. The government has even held a special meeting to address the recurring issue. Puan mentioned that President Prabowo held a special meeting today to discuss the matter. As the leader of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan has requested the relevant commission, Commission IX, to conduct an evaluation of the handling of this pregnant woman’s death. She emphasized the importance of providing equal healthcare services to all citizens, including those in remote areas.
Puan expressed concern and called for an evaluation of healthcare practices, particularly in 3T regions. She urged that similar incidents should not happen again in the future. The Ministry of Health took swift actions to investigate the systemic failure that led to the mother’s tragic death. Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin confirmed that a specialized team has been sent to Papua for a thorough examination. Inter-ministerial coordination was immediately initiated when news of Irene’s case emerged, showing the government’s commitment to addressing the issue.
