Presidente Lula admits mistake in announcing re-election plans in Indonesia

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated during a press conference in Malaysia early Monday (10/27) that it was a mistake to confirm his intention to run for a fourth term in next year’s elections during his visit to Indonesia. The Brazilian president admitted that he should have made the announcement in Brazil. ‘In fact, I shouldn’t have said in Indonesia that I was a candidate, I should have said it in Brazil. It was probably a lapse on my part, I don’t have any votes there. It was a mistake,’ joked Lula. The announcement took place last Thursday (10/23) during a press statement on his first day of engagements in Indonesia alongside President Prabowo Subianto. Lula then had commitments in the country for two days before heading to Malaysia.
