Preta Gil’s Ashes to Be Turned into Diamond and Scattered by Friends at Home and in Bahia

Preta Gil’s wish was to have her ashes distributed among her family and close friends. Part of them was placed in small containers and, as reported by O GLOBO, will be taken to different destinations by the chosen ones. Some will remain at the Columbary of the Crematorium and Cemetery of Penitência, in Rio’s Port Zone, as a permanent tribute – a realistic bust of the artist, who passed away last month at the age of 50 after a long battle with cancer – which can be visited by the public. Among the destinations for the ashes, some will be scattered at home and at the pier she loved to visit in Bahia, a place of great emotional significance – according to the wishes of the recipients themselves. Another portion will be turned into a diamond as a way to immortalize the singer’s memory. The funeral of Preta Gil’s body will take place at Theatro Municipal – Photo: PORCIUNCULA / AFP Preta Gil passed away last Sunday (20) at the age of 50 due to colorectal cancer diagnosed in 2023. The wake will be held next Friday (25), from 9 am to 1 pm, at Theatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro, and will be open to the public. The singer was in the United States seeking treatment for the disease. Francisco Gil, Preta Gil’s only son, also paid tribute to his mother with a loving message on social media. He is the son of the singer and businesswoman with actor Otávio Muller and the father of Sol de Maria, the granddaughter who was always with Preta. Francisco also says that his mother taught him that love knows no bounds and that she will always be loved: ‘What a privilege to come into this world from within you.’ Preta’s son reveals in his text that he felt fear but faced the illness with his mother. He also shared what Gilberto Gil said after his daughter’s passing: ‘As your father said to me after you left: ‘May the next 50 billion years come…’
