Punjab Distributing Free Wheat to 2.50 Lakh Worried Ration Card Holders, Depot Holders in Limbo

In Punjab, 2.50 lakh Smart Ration Card holders are facing worrisome news as the distribution scheduled for November 7th has been delayed. Old staff changes have left new staff unaware of localities, causing the wheat to remain in warehouses. Depot holders are also troubled as disputes arise when people don’t receive their wheat on time. Inspectors have around 10 to 40 areas to manage where cardholders await release orders on how much wheat to distribute. Due to staff changes, release orders have not been issued yet, and parchi (distribution slips) for 2.50 lakh cardholders have not been cut. Depot holders stress the need to distribute the wheat soon, as 2.50 lakh Smart Card holders are affected.
