Putin demands treatment for Russians without imported drugs

In the next 6 years, almost all drugs available to Russians in state hospitals and healthcare programs must be of domestic origin. These requirements are laid out in the State Healthcare Development Strategy, approved by President Vladimir Putin. According to the document, by 2030, 90% of the medicinal drugs needed for the healthcare system must be produced in Russia through ‘the complete production cycle’. The share of domestic drugs in the list of essential medicines, which includes over 800 items, must also increase to 90%. Foreign pharmaceutical companies have been slowly exiting the Russian market, leading to a reduction in the assortment of imported drugs in Russian pharmacies.
