The meteorological department has released an alert indicating a monsoon surge over the southern and southeastern coastal areas of Sri Lanka. In a couple of locations in Tamil Nadu, including Puducherry and Karaikal, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder is expected today. There is a chance of heavy rain in a few locations in the hilly areas of Tirunelveli district, Theni, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, and Thoothukudi districts.
