Red-breasted Parakeet Revives Hope for Bali’s Natural Restoration

PRNewswire Denpasar [Indonesia], October 27: The skies of Bali once again hold hope. The distinctive calls of the Red-breasted Parakeet (Trichoglossus forsteni mitchellii) may soon echo once more across its native land. This species was once an integral part of Bali and Lombok’s ecosystems but is now endangered due to illegal wildlife trade and habitat loss. Sightings of wild individuals and the initiation of a breeding program give hope that this bird has not vanished from the wild and can be restored. The recovery efforts started with a training program at Taman Safari Bali, preparing for the repatriation of 20 parakeets from the UK to Bali. This initiative aims to bring back a piece of Bali’s lost natural heritage.
