Remembering the Battle of Surabaya 1945 on National Heroes Day, November 10

Every November 10, the Indonesian nation commemorates National Heroes Day to remember the heroic events that took place in Surabaya in 1945. This battle became one of the most decisive moments in the history of the Indonesian National Revolution. The people of Surabaya, alongside the fighters of the Republic of Indonesia, fought desperately to defend their independence from colonial rule, facing tanks, warships, and fighter planes. Their bravery, to the point of shedding blood, earned Surabaya the title of ‘City of Heroes’.
