Binary star system TOI-2267 features two ‘failed stars’ around which an exoplanet orbits, mirroring Tatooine from Star Wars. This system is a compact binary, with stars in close proximity. The discovery by researchers at University of Liège breaks several records, marking the first binary system with transiting planets around both stars. Despite gravitational instability in proximity, which hinders planet formation, TOI-2267 has Earth-sized planets. Initial signs were analyzed using TESS data with the SHERLOCK detection tool, leading to further observations with SPECULOOS telescopes. These tools help reveal unexpected planetary characteristics.
