Rio Grande do Sul reports two suspected cases of methanol poisoning, according to Ministry of Health

Rio Grande do Sul has recorded the first two notifications of suspected methanol poisoning after consuming alcoholic beverages. The Ministry of Health is analyzing one case in Porto Alegre and another in Santa Maria, in the Central Region. In a statement, the State Health Department and the Municipal Health Department of Porto Alegre stated that the State Center for Health Surveillance received both notifications, but the one from Santa Maria was ruled out after preliminary evaluation. The data was released on Saturday (4th). So far, there are 14 confirmed cases of methanol poisoning after alcohol consumption and 148 under investigation throughout Brazil. The majority of notifications are from São Paulo, with 162 cases under investigation and 14 confirmed. The state of São Paulo also recorded one death. The Ministry of Health is also investigating another 13 deaths suspected of methanol poisoning: seven in São Paulo, three in Pernambuco, one in Bahia, and one in Mato Grosso do Sul. The data refers to notifications recorded until 4 pm on Saturday.
