Rio police had to reschedule major operation in Penha because access route was closed off by traffickers

After the megaoperation in the Penha and Alemão complexes on October 28th, teams from the Rio de Janeiro Public Ministry (MPRJ) have been collecting testimonies from police officers and following the determinations of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) pre-established in ADPF 635. Last Monday, for example, Deputy Moysés Santana Gomes, head of the Narcotics Repression Police Station (DRE) — responsible for the investigation that led to the operation — provided details on how the planning was carried out. He mentioned that there were difficulties in setting a date due to weather conditions, leaks of information, and movement of traffickers in the region. One of the incidents he shared was about how criminals built a wall at one of the access points to the Fazendinha community to prevent the entry of agents.
