Rising death toll after devastating floods in Asia: the most affected countries

The death toll from floods and landslides in various parts of Asia has surpassed 1,160, with Sri Lanka and Indonesia deploying military personnel to assist survivors. Different weather phenomena caused torrential rains last week in Sri Lanka, parts of the Indonesian island of Sumatra, southern Thailand, and northern Malaysia. In Sumatra, the death toll rose to 593 on Monday, with 468 missing, said the disaster management agency. ‘The water was up to my neck,’ said Misbahul Munir, 28, a resident of North Aceh, in the northern tip of Sumatra.
