Rubio vows US response to Bolsonaro’s conviction

Rubio says US will announce response to Bolsonaro’s conviction soon. The majority of the First Chamber of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) decided to convict Bolsonaro and seven other defendants for attempted coup. The ministers’ votes were concluded on Thursday (11). The former president received a sentence of 27 years and three months in prison. In an interview with Fox News, Rubio referred to the STF judges as ‘activist judges’ who persecuted Bolsonaro. He also stated that the Court attempted to punish American citizens through ‘extraterritorial measures’. ‘Therefore, there will be a US response to this, and we will have some announcements next week about additional measures we intend to take,’ he said. Also on Thursday, Rubio had already promised that the US ‘will respond appropriately to this witch hunt’ against Bolsonaro.
