US President Donald Trump’s efforts to establish a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine have raised concerns among European nations. The proposed peace plan, seen as favoring Russia’s interests, has prompted European leaders to express worries. Trump gave Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky until November 27 to respond to the proposal.
‘The proposal is not final, but it will bring an end to the conflict,’ said Trump during a conversation with journalists at the White House. He emphasized that the US expects a response from Ukraine by November 27. Trump clarified that the peace proposal sent by the US is not final and Ukraine has the option to continue the fight with full force if desired.
According to reports, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo informed senators that the peace plan for the 28th issue is based on material obtained from Russia, with no comments made by the US State Department on the matter. Zelensky expresses concern: ‘To preserve pride and take the risk of losing a partner.’ Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed grave concerns about the American proposal. He stated, ‘We are facing one of the most difficult times in our history. The US draft seems to favor Russia’s interests and the pressure on Ukraine to concede is increasing.’
Leaked US drafts may exclude parts of Donetsk, grant acceptance to Russia’s control areas, and include suggestions to stabilize battle lines in Kherson-Zaporizhzhia. British opposition Amid participation in the G20, European countries also voiced concerns about the US plan. They stressed that no country’s borders should be changed coercively and leaving Ukraine’s current situation could jeopardize its future.
British opposition During the G20, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized that limiting Ukraine’s military capabilities is unacceptable and that self-defense capabilities must be maintained even after the ceasefire. Trump’s draft includes limiting Ukraine’s military strength, gradually easing Russia’s economic sanctions, and opening a path for Russia’s return to the G7 in the future.
