Russian actor Vladimir Simonov was born on June 7, 1957, in the city of Oktyabrsky, Samara region. After spending his summer vacation in St. Petersburg, young Vladimir decided to become an actor. On his second attempt, he was accepted into the Shchukin School. After completing his education, Simonov started working at the Vakhtangov Theatre. In 1981, he landed his first role in the movie ‘Sashka’. From then on, he received regular offers for film roles, and his main focus shifted from theatre to the big screen.
Simonov became known to the audience for his roles in historical dramas such as ‘Dyatlov Pass’, ‘Dostoevsky’, and TV series like ‘Stop on Demand’, ‘Kamenskaya’, among many others. It was known that in his final years, the actor faced serious heart problems. He was diagnosed with hypertension, which posed a risk of heart attack and sudden cardiac arrest. Despite the life-threatening illness, Simonov never gave up his profession and continued performing on stage at his local theatre.
The news of Simonov’s passing left his colleagues at the Vakhtangov Theatre in disbelief and mourning. They expressed their condolences, stating, ‘The news we received is something we do not want to believe. People’s Artist of Russia Vladimir Alexandrovich Simonov is no longer with us. It is a tragedy. There are no words, only tears. May his memory be bright.’ Simonov dedicated his entire life to the Vakhtangov Theatre.
Simonov’s death marks a great loss to the Russian entertainment industry, leaving a void that will be hard to fill. His contributions to film and theatre will be remembered and cherished by his fans worldwide. May he rest in peace.
