Russian athlete dominates European Championship, breaking three records in a day

Georgiy Myand, a Russian weightlifter, arrived at the European Championship as one of the favorites, but what unfolded in Albania can only be described as sheer dominance. The athlete destroyed his giant opponents and set three records in one day. Myand started weightlifting at the age of 12, transitioning from gymnastics and volleyball. His coach recognized his potential as a weightlifter, leading to three consecutive victories at national competitions. Success at the international level eluded him until his participation at the World Youth Championship in May 2025, where he won bronze. Myand’s victory was without chances for his competitors, as he effortlessly lifted 165 kg in the snatch, followed by 170 kg on his second attempt, securing the gold in the category. His final attempt of 173 kg set a new European junior record. In the clean and jerk, Myand confidently lifted 200 kg on his first attempt, followed by 208 kg to secure the gold medal. His final successful lift of 213 kg set new records in the clean and jerk and total weight lifted, earning him three records in a day.
