In one of the buildings of the ‘Grozny-City’ business center in the capital of Chechnya, a drone crashed around 7 am on December 5. It is currently unknown if there are any casualties. Photos show the facade collapsed on several floors and a fire inside the tower. Officially, no information has been released about the attack. The Grozny airport, as well as Vladikavkaz and Magas, briefly ceased operations due to a ‘Carpet’ plan being implemented, but restrictions were lifted by 9 am.
An unofficial public page posted a reminder about the ban on filming drone crash sites and publishing information on attacks by Ukrainian drones in the republic. Governor of the Rostov region, Yuri Slyusar, reported that an attack by drones in the northern region was repelled by air defense forces with no human casualties. The Ministry of Defense stated that Russian air defense systems shot down 41 drones on the night of December 5. Ukrainian drones were destroyed in various Russian regions, and no details on the debris or possible consequences on the ground were provided.
This is not the first time drones have attacked Chechnya. A year ago, on December 12, a drone targeted the barracks of the special police regiment named after Akhmad Kadyrov in Grozny. The explosion damaged the roof and shattered glass, causing a minor fire quickly extinguished. Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov blamed Ukraine for the attack and threatened retaliation. Earlier, on October 29, 2024, drones struck the territory of the Russian Special Forces University named after V.V. Putin in Gudermes, setting fire to the roof of an abandoned building. No casualties were reported, and the fire was promptly extinguished.
