Russian Warned of Link Between Oral Cavity Health and Pancreatic Cancer

Scientists have discovered an unexpected link between the state of the oral cavity microflora and the risk of developing pancreatic cancer, as reported by Zalim Kudaev, the founder of the federal network of clinics ‘Teeth in One Day’ in an interview with ‘Lenta.ru’. According to the expert, the scientific discovery was made by specialists from the NYU Langone Health medical center in collaboration with the Perlmutter Cancer Center. During the study, scientists analyzed the DNA of bacteria and fungi in the saliva of 122,000 individuals, whom they observed for approximately nine years to determine if tumors would develop. ‘The key result of the study is that scientists identified more than two dozen different microorganisms in the oral cavity, the presence of which correlates with an increased risk of developing malignant pancreatic tumors. This discovery could significantly change approaches to the early diagnosis and prevention of this type of cancer,’ Kudaev explained.
