Russia’s Growing Fertilizer Export Partnership with India

Russia is forging a stronger bond with India by significantly amplifying its fertilizer exports, which have skyrocketed by 4.3 times compared to 2021 figures. This partnership is seen as instrumental for Russia’s presence in the BRICS nations, with India identified as a ‘locomotive’ for economic momentum. Russia is the top fertilizer supplier to India, accounting for 26% of its imports and emerging as a key pillar in the bilateral economic partnership benefiting Indian farmers. According to Andrey Guryev, the president of the Russian Fertilizer Producers Association, Russia is ready to further boost supplies of environmentally friendly fertilizers to India. The increasing supplies reflect a reorientation of Russian exports towards BRICS markets. India has been actively purchasing Russian fertilizers, increasing imports to record levels since the middle of 2023, consolidating Russia’s position as a key partner in the sector.
