Santa Cruz advances on penalties and moves on to the quarterfinals in Série D; check out the upcoming matches

Three games concluded the round of 16 of the Brazilian Championship Série D on Sunday (24). The main highlight was Santa Cruz, who defeated Altos away from home and secured their spot in the quarterfinals. América-RN and Maranhão are also through to the next stage. Playing at the Lindolfinho Stadium in Teresina, the Pernambuco Tricolor couldn’t find the net against Altos. The goalless draw, combined with the 1-1 result in the first leg, took the match decision to penalties. Renato, Soares, and Geovany scored for Santa Cruz. Meanwhile, Esquerdinha, Jonathan, and Leandro Amorim failed to beat goalkeeper Rokenedy, resulting in Altos’ defeat. Final score: Santa Cruz 3 x 1 Altos.
