São Paulo settles debt with Cerro and reverses Fifa transfer ban

São Paulo managed to resolve the impasse that led to a transfer ban from Fifa on Monday (25). Paraguayan club Cerro Porteño had included Tricolor in the list of clubs prohibited from registering new players due to non-payment of one of the installments for the purchase of Damián Bobadilla. According to Gazeta Esportiva, São Paulo’s board paid $300,000 (about R$1,622,715 at the current exchange rate) for the outstanding installment, and the expectation is that the transfer ban will be officially reversed in the next few hours. Bobadilla, the current starter for the team led by Hernán Crespo, was announced in December 2023 when São Paulo acquired 60% of his economic rights for $2 million (R$9.7 million at the time) in installments over the following two years. More than R$5 million have already been transferred to the Paraguayan club since then.
