Singapore to Establish First Embassy in East Africa in Ethiopian Capital

Singapore has announced plans to establish its first embassy in East Africa, specifically in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This will mark the third embassy on the African continent, following those in Egypt and South Africa. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong revealed this development during a joint press conference alongside Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali. Wong expressed that the embassy signifies Singapore’s dedication to its partnership with Ethiopia and recognizes the strategic importance and potential of the country. The presence in Addis Ababa will also facilitate stronger ties with the African Union and foster deeper engagement with Africa as a whole.
