Spain is currently facing a record-breaking level of CO2 emissions from wildfires, with Portugal also under emergency conditions. Since the end of July, intense fires have required over 3,600 firefighters to intervene, particularly in the northern regions of both countries. The Portuguese government declared a state of emergency on August 2nd, renewing it on a weekly basis. Tragically, a firefighter lost his life battling the flames. The Copernicus monitoring system has warned that Portuguese emissions in 2025 are nearing the annual records set in 2003 and 2005.
