Statewide Outbreak of ‘Scrub Typhus’ Positive Cases – Stay Alert for These 6 Months!

In major hospitals like Vijayawada, Guntur, Visakhapatnam, Kadapa, and Tirupati, suspected tests are being conducted. These include the public health labs in 17 districts. Suspected cases are more prevalent in rural areas. Setting up special camps for sample collection yields positive results.
The next 6 months: Scrub typhus vector activity is highest from August to February. Health experts urge everyone to be extra cautious as infections are more likely during this time. If left untreated, individuals bitten by the vector can fall ill. Hence, following correct precautions is advised by medical experts.
People working in fields, forests, orchards, vegetable patches, and areas with animal residues should be extra cautious. Wearing long sleeves, pants, socks, and boots properly is essential.
Ensure clean surroundings at home, dispose of garbage properly, and remove places where vectors breed. Timely changing of bedsheets and cleanliness are crucial.
To protect children from the impact of scrub typhus, ensure they cover their arms and legs properly. Educate them on proper hygiene practices. Even during playtime, they should remain vigilant.
